Meet my new Crazy Loopy Christmas Cardigan! I was inspired by a sweater I saw at Target, you may have seen it there recently. I could have bought it, but that would be to easy LOL... I love a good crochet challenge... This is the first time I've ever tried the "Loop Stitch". It takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is so much fun!
Level:
Intermediate
Sizing:
Semi-fitted, cardigan pictured is size small
Materials:
3 balls of Red Heart Super Saver yarn in the color Hunter Green
Size L/8 mm. Crochet Hook
Guage:
Using L hook - 9 sts and 6 rows of pattern = 4"
Stitches used:
Loop stitch - Step 1: Insert your hook into stitch, grasp the yarn with your left hand and draw up a very large loop with your left index finger.
Step 2: Pass the hook behind the 2 strands of yarn held by your left index finger. Catch both strands with the hook, and pull them both through the stitch. Drop the loop down over the free yarn and hold with your left middle finger. You should now have 3 loops on your hook.
Step 3: Yo and pull the strand through all loops on the hook. Tug on the loop slightly to make more secure. (Full video tutorial on this stitch and cardigan is posted below)
Dc – Double crochet
Hdc - Half double crochet
Front post hdc- stitch is worked around post of stitch from previous row inserting hook from the front.
Back post hdc- stitch is worked around post of stitch from previous row inserting hook from the back.
Sl st - Slip stitch
Chainless dc – Used at the beginning of each dc row. Turn work without turning chain, sc loosely in first stitch, then sc again in left side 2 loops of the sc just created - you're just "stacking" the 2 single crochets on top of each other.
Dc2tog - work the first double crochet until only 2 loops are on the hook. Yarn over, place hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull yarn through all 3 loops for a completed decrease.
*Note: All pieces of the cardigan will be worked from the bottom up.
*Sizing Notes: Instructions below are for size small. Finished back is approx. 19" across when laid flat.
To increase sizing, add more starting chains to back panel and make note of number you added. Divide this number in half and add this number to each starting chain of front panels. To lengthen, add more rows of pattern to beginning of fronts and back panel.
