Simply Sage Hat

I live in Southern California, and it's finally getting cool enough to make and wear all the cozy things. This is my first hat of the season - I wanted to design something super quick and easy, beginner friendly, yet looks upscale and cool.

Level:

Beginner

Sizing:

One Size Fits All

Hat pictured has an 18" circumference. My head is actually around 22", but the fabric has a lot of stretch.

Materials:

I used approx. 120 yards of size 5 bulky weight yarn

Eco Cozy by Loops & Threads, in the color Sage Green - one ball, with plenty left over

N/10 mm. Crochet Hook

Stitches used:

Dc – Double crochet

Sl st - Slip stitch

Chainless dc – Used at the beginning of each dc row. Turn work without turning chain, sc loosely in first stitch, then sc again in left side 2 loops of the sc just created - you're just "stacking" the 2 single crochets on top of each other.

Instructions:

Loosely chain 9. Join to first chain with a slip stitch, creating a ring. Chain 24.

R1- In second chain from hook, chainless dc, and dc to end of chain (23 dc) Slip stitch into ring, ch 1, turn.

R2- Loosely slip stitch into back loops of previous row.

R3- Ch 1, turn, chainless dc into the back loop of the first st, dc in the back loops to end of row. Slip stitch into ring, ch 1, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 18" wide - or desired measurement to fit around your head. The rows will start to bunch up around the ring - you can go ahead and slide the rows to make more room. Make sure you end with a slip stitch row. Do not finish off.

Seam:

Fold hat with the wrong side out, lining up the 2 shorter edges of the hat.

Ch 1, turn, slip stitch into the back loops of the first stitches in each of the two rows. Continue with slip stitches in the back loops across row. Finish off with a long tail for stitching the top of the hat.

With a large needle, stitch the top of the hat closed with your long tail.

Turn right side out, and fold up the brim.

I made my own leather tag with a small scrap of leather, and I drew my logo with a brown marker. I stitched it to the brim with size 10 cotton crochet thread.

I also added a purchased fur pom pom as seen below.

Enjoy your new beautiful beanie!
